A group of people all got together on 16th April 2007, with one thing in common - they wanted to improve the area in which they lived, worked or represented - namely Dane Bank. This was provoked by ongoing issues such as vandalism, anti-social behaviour and also the lack of facilities for children and young people.

This improvement was to be made through Granada Park - a local park owned by Tameside council in an area for which there is very little funding. If a Friends group were to be formed, the local community would be able to 'take ownership' of the park and ultimately decide on its future. This was also encouraged by other 'Friends' groups in the borough which had been very successful.

So, thats what happened, following the adoption of a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer - a formal constitution was put in place, a bank account was opened and here we are less than 6 months later, starting the consultation process and composing our first bid application.

The group itself is a small and keen group of people who are passionate about what they want to achieve. They have already given a lot of valuable time attending meetings, carrying out research and generally trying to raise the profile of the park.

Members include local residents, local councillors, a representative for the childrens and young people services, Groundwork UK and a police representative where possible. There is a high level of knowledge, skill and enthusiasm within the group which is enhanced on a regular basis by guest speakers who attend the meeting bringing with them the same enthusiasm and willingness to help. We are again very grateful for this help.

Meetings take place about once a month and are based around the development and management of the park.
