June 2008 Community Day

A free day held for the whole community to show the consultation results and the plans that were drawn up following this. The day was very successful and raised awareness of the group. The group funded this day and also received help from local businesses on the day.

 

August 2008 Under 13's Play Equipment

Following the award of over £100,000 from Tameside Councils Play Builder Scheme plans are currently underway to design and implement a scheme. Feedback was given by youngsters on their preferred equipment and playground design through consultation carried out in schools and at Tameside's annual play day. The Council was successful in its bid for funding which is based around the theme of the four elements - earth, wind, water and fire.

September 2008 Security

The park needs to be made safer and more secure. Quotes are currently being obtained for new gates and eventually new fencing.

 

October 2008 Opening Doors for Older People        Older People's Partnership logo

The Group wants the whole community to be part of the park and have been successful in their application to receive funding from the above for exercise equipment for over 50's. The bid requests 8 pieces of equipment including 2 that are suitable for wheelchair users. The equipment is part of a therapeutic package which is also good for people who are recovering from injury or have restricted joint movement. The equipment includes:

 - Back Massager

 - Tai Chi Spinners

- Air Skier

- Hip Twister

- Big Shoulder Wheels

- Elliptical Cross Trainer

- Air Walker

- Seated Leg Press

The equipment will be installed when the under 13s area is complete so around April 2009. There will be an open day around this time to launch the equipment.

December 2008 The Bowling Green

The group has successfully applied for 'Awards for All' funding for new equipment for the bowling green. They have been working with a group of bowlers who are very keen to resurrect bowling in Granada Park - for all ages.

December 2008 Christmas in the Park

 January 2009 Security Update

The new gates have now been installed at the entrances on Granada Road. The gates will improve security and give better access to wheelchair users and prams.

January 2009 Under 13s Area Update

The new play equipment is due to be installed by the end of March 2009

March 2009 the under 13s area is complete and has proved a huge success

May 2009 the older peoples exercise equipment was installed and was proved to be very popular. An open day was held to launch the first of its kind in Tameside with many special guests -see the photo pages..

Also in 2009, the fencing was completed on Thornley Lane South and CCTV was installed - this is monitored from a central location.

December 2009 Christmas in the park was held in conjuction with the West Tameside Lions who organised the event. Dane Bank and Denton West End schools attended as well as Stalybridge Old Band.

April 2010

The group continues to source funding to upgrade the sports cage - around £90,000 is needed in total.

Funding is also being obtained for smaller items such as benches.

July 2010

Tameside Council installed a new noticeboard near the main entrance to the park. This will provide useful information to park users.

August 2010

Benches have been installed around the play area and the bowling green. These were funded by the TMBC Community Chest Fund and also the Manchester Airport Community Foundation Fund.

It has taken over 12 months but the group has finally managed to secure the funding needed to upgrade the sports cage. Work will be starting very soon..

March 2011

The sports cage is now complete!! You can now play tennis, basketball and football on the new, improved courts - all free! The facility will be officially launched on the 10th April.

Funding has just been secured to refurbish the bowling pavillion, so it can be used a community building. Work will start in the next 6 months.

April 2011

The group has been awarded £4,000 from the 'You Choose' community grant fund. This is for bigger bins as well as new fencing and plants at the entrances.

September 2011

Refurbishment work on the bowling pavillion is now completed.

October 2011

Free sports sessions to be held in the sports cage during half term week. These have been funded by a Sustainability Grant as part of the Groundwork's Changing Spaces Fund.
