December 2007

At the end of October, Denton West End School very kindly let the Friends Group set up a display at the entrance to the school. This was done on a 'Meet the Teacher' evening when many parents and pupils would be visiting the school. Representatives from the group were there to promote the consultation and discuss the future plans for the park.

We also launched a competition where we asked pupils of the school to design a logo for the park. This logo is to be shown on the website and on any official documentation for the park. Altogether, we received 25 entries and they were all very, very good. It was very clear that a lot of thought and effort had been put into them. It was very difficult to choose a winner so we handed this job over to the Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Mike Smith, who has been extremely supportive of the Group so far.

The 3 chosen were as follows:

1st Lauren O'Driscoll Age 7

2nd Eleanor Donaldson Age 4

3rd Hannah Leech Age 10

Denton Sainsburys very kindly donated prizes for ALL the entrants and also let us display the entries instore for 2 weeks. A big thank you to the Duty Manager, Stephen Hall who made this possible. The prizes were officially presented in Sainsburys by the Mayor on December 7th.

This was a lovely evening and there were many smiling faces, from both the children and the proud parents!

We were also very grateful to Mrs Pennington, Councillor Brenda Warrington, Nick Sayers and of course the Mayor, who all took time out of their busy schedules to be there. As a group, it marked one of hopefully many milestones for us!

Have a look on the next page where you can see all the entries and also some photos from the evening itself!
